Debbie Johnson
Debbie Johnson was born in Brazil on December 8, 1977. Debbie grew up on the mission field in Brazil where her parents served faithfully. She enjoyed a wonderful childhood and teen years while serving alongside her family. In high school Debbie’s church began a deaf ministry, which captured her interest. Knowing her parents would be taking furlough to the states during her last year of high school, Debbie decided to finish her work early. Thus, rather than finishing her senior year in a different school in the states, Debbie started Hyles-Anderson College a year ahead of schedule. While completing her studies for a Bachelor’s degree, Debbie served in the Deaf Ministry at First Baptist Church of Hammond. Debbie “caught” sign language rather than learning in the classroom. She spent much time with the many deaf at school and church. Soon she excelled in communicating and ministering to the deaf. This began years devoted to deaf interpreting, both in church and in secular settings. Today Debbie interprets for church services and for public school deaf students. She is also a valued friend and helper to many and invests much love into the young people in her life.
